Markaila Brathwaite

Markaila A. Brathwaite is an Associate at FOSTERS, having joined the Firm in September 2026.

Markaila obtained her Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from The University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus in 2023 and her Legal Education Certificate (LEC) from the Hugh Wooding Law School in 2025. She was admitted to practise in Barbados in October 2025, Trinidad and Tobago in November 2025 and Saint Lucia in September 2026.

Prior to joining FOSTERS, Markaila practised in Barbados, where she gained experience in criminal and civil litigation and regularly appeared before the Supreme Court and Magistrates’ Courts. Her experience includes bail and sentencing applications and assisting senior counsel in complex criminal trials. She has also worked on civil matters involving debt recovery, personal injury, property and conveyancing, probate and family law.

Markaila has a particular interest in civil and commercial litigation and advocacy and is developing her practice in these areas at FOSTERS.

Outside of work, Markaila enjoys reading, travelling and spending time with family and friends.
